Dexter Gordon - Gettin' Around - Vinyle (Classics Series)
The suave saxophone master Dexter Gordon had been living in Europe for several years when he returned to the United States for a brief stay, during which he entered the Van Gelder Studio to record what was to be his last Blue Note album, Gettin' Around, in 1965. Dexter's tenor takes pride of place throughout this sublime album, accompanied by a unique instrumentation made up of Bobby Hutcherson on vibraphone, Barry Harris on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass and Billy Higgins on drums. Dexter is at his best, luxuriously lyrical, on a programme of bossas (‘Manhã de Carnaval’), ballads (‘Everybody's Somebody's Fool’), and even a Basie hit (‘Shiny Stockings’). The album ends playfully with Dexter's stylised original ‘The Hairdresser’.
This Blue Note Classic Vinyl edition is stereo, entirely analogue, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes, and pressed on 180g Optimal vinyl.
